Energy Flow
Third level consumer: Sea Turtle |
The Sea Turtle's role in both the environment and food pyramid is very important. The Sea Turtle is one of the very few species that is unaffected by the sting of the Box Jellyfish. Without the sea turtle, the Box Jellyfish population could grow too large too fast, which would endanger many other animals. The Sea Turtle is a third level consumer, also known as a tertiary consumer, which means it gets .1% of the energy when it eats something. Out of all the consumers in this chain, the Sea Turtle gets the lowest amount of energy from the energy flow.
